Why I Started Clean Bee
People assume I started a cleaning company because I needed a job. The truth is I started it because I couldn't do the work any other way than my own.
I grew up in Brazil, and some of my earliest memories are of cleaning alongside my mother. She didn't rush. She'd tell me that a home holds a family's whole life, and you treat it that way — slowly, with attention, with respect. I didn't know it then, but she was teaching me the only way I'd ever be able to work.
I came to the United States when I was eighteen. I didn't speak English. That first year was hard in a way that's difficult to describe — you feel capable inside your own head and helpless the moment you open your mouth. But I understood two things without any words: how to work, and how to notice detail. So that's what I offered.
In those first years, I took whatever work I could find. One of my earliest jobs was at a supermarket — that's me in the photo above, a young woman in a brand-new country still trying to figure it all out.
I also worked for a local restaurant. I gave it everything — long hours, all my effort — and when payday came, the owner told me he'd pay me the following week. The next week he fired me instead, and I never saw a dollar of it. I was young, newly arrived, and I didn't know my rights or what to do. I just swallowed it. I've never forgotten how that felt — being unseen, your time and effort and dignity treated like they were worth nothing. It didn't make me bitter. It made me certain of the kind of person, and the kind of boss, I would never be.
For years I cleaned other people's homes and watched how the bigger companies did it. Rushed visits. Missed corners. A different stranger every week. Promises that didn't hold. I kept thinking: people are inviting someone into their most private space, and this is what they get?
So I built the company I wished existed. One where the person cleaning your home actually cares about the corner you'll never check. Where you see the same face, someone who learns how you like things. Where "clean" means the baseboards and the vents and the track of the sliding door, not just what shows.
I'm a wife and a mother of two now. On Sundays I teach Sunday school and sing in the choir at Hope Center here in Elizabeth. My life is full, and I understand — really understand — what it means to hand a piece of your to-do list to someone else and trust them with it. That trust is the whole business. I don't take it lightly.
If you've read this far, you probably don't just want a cleaner house. You want your time back, and you want to stop worrying about it. That's exactly what I built Clean Bee to give you.
