What We Found Under the Sofa During a Deep Clean

We deep clean homes that already have regular cleaning. That's the whole point. A routine clean keeps surfaces clean — but it doesn't move the furniture. This is what we find when we do.

What we found

We recently did a deep clean in a home in Morristown, New Jersey — a home we clean every two weeks. From the outside, everything looked fine. The floors were clean. The cushions were straightened. There was nothing to suggest anything was wrong underneath.

We moved the sofa and found dozens of spider egg sacs packed into the frame.

After

Not one or two. Dozens. Packed into the corner of the frame where the sofa meets the floor.

This isn't a sign that a home is dirty. Spiders look for dark, undisturbed places. The underside of a sofa — even in a clean, well-maintained home — is exactly that. If no one moves the furniture, they set up and stay.

What we did about it

We vacuumed out the entire frame. Every corner, every crevice, every inch of the rail underneath.

After

We took the vacuum bag straight outside and disposed of it. Then we wiped down the frame rail and moved on.

We move the furniture — every time

This is the part of a deep clean that makes the difference. We don't clean around things. We move them.

Every sofa, sectional, and armchair gets moved. Beds get moved. Appliances get moved. The things that look clean from the front — we check them from the back and underneath too.

If you already have recurring cleaning with us, your home stays clean between deep cleans. But a deep clean is what resets the parts that a routine visit can't reach.

How often should you deep clean?

Every 3 to 6 months for most homes — even if you already have regular cleaning.

If you have pets, young kids, or a lot of foot traffic, closer to every 3 months. The furniture holds more than you see. A deep clean is what clears it.

Questions we hear

How often should I deep clean my home?

Every 3 to 6 months for most homes, even with regular cleaning. Closer to every 3 months if you have pets, young kids or a lot of foot traffic.

Is a deep clean necessary if I already have regular cleaning?

Yes. Regular cleaning keeps everyday surfaces clean, but it doesn't move furniture or appliances. A deep clean reaches underneath and behind them.

Do spider egg sacs mean my house is dirty?

No. Spiders pick quiet, undisturbed places, like under furniture, even in clean homes. Moving furniture and vacuuming those spots regularly is what keeps them away.
