Where Did the Week Go? What My Clients Do With the Time They Get Back

At the end of a busy week, most of us ask the same question: where did all the time go? For a lot of families, the honest answer is cleaning. The dishes, the laundry, the floors, the bathrooms. They don't take one big block of time. They take a little bit of every day, and a lot of every weekend.

What my clients do with their time back

I love hearing what clients do with the hours they used to spend cleaning. Some of my older, retired clients picked up pickleball. One client told me she was finally able to finish a book. Parents tell me they can actually enjoy their kids' sports games, instead of sitting in the stands thinking about the dishes, the mess and the laundry waiting at home.

None of that is about a cleaner house. It's about being present for the part of life that matters to you.

I know the feeling

I'm a wife and a mother of two, and for a long time I lived this myself. On weekends I would force myself to go out with my family, to do things with my kids and my husband, but my mind was always on the list of house cleaning waiting for me. I was there, but I wasn't really there.

Now one of my favorite things to do is nothing. I have my free time to enjoy and slow down, and to enjoy the small moments instead of getting trapped by the routine of housework.

Where the time goes

Housework rarely feels like a big job, which is why it's so easy to lose a week to it. A load of laundry here, a quick wipe-down there, the bathroom on Saturday morning, the kitchen every night. When we look back at the week and ask where all the time went, a lot of it went to cleaning instead of to you.
