How to Deep Clean Your House in One Day (NJ Maid Service Secrets)

Deep cleaning your home doesn't have to take an entire weekend. As a women-owned cleaning service in NJ, we've deep-cleaned thousands of homes — and we've built a tight, room-by-room system that gets the job done in a single day.

Here's exactly how we do it.

Start with the Right Supplies

Before touching a single surface, gather everything you need. Running back and forth to the supply closet is the #1 time-killer in any cleaning session.

You'll need:

  • Microfiber cloths (at least 6)
  • An all-purpose spray cleaner
  • Baking soda and white vinegar
  • A scrubbing brush
  • A mop and bucket
  • A vacuum with attachments
  • Rubber gloves
  • A trash bag for each room

Pro tip from our team: Always clean top-to-bottom, back-to-front. Dust falls down, so clean ceilings and shelves before floors. Start in the room farthest from your front door so you're always walking out of a clean room.

Room 1: The Kitchen (90 minutes)

The kitchen is the hardest room — budget the most time here.

  1. Clear all surfaces — remove everything from counters and put away dishes
  2. Degrease the stove — let a degreaser sit for 5 minutes while you do other tasks
  3. Clean inside the microwave — heat a bowl of water + lemon juice for 3 minutes, then wipe clean
  4. Wipe cabinet fronts — use a damp microfiber cloth with a drop of dish soap
  5. Scrub the sink — baking soda + dish soap, then rinse with hot water
  6. Clean the fridge exterior — don't forget the top!
  7. Mop the floor last

Room 2: Bathrooms (45 min each)

Bathrooms are all about the sequence. Apply your toilet cleaner and tub/shower cleaner first — let them sit while you do other things.

  1. Apply toilet bowl cleaner inside the bowl
  2. Spray shower/tub with cleaner
  3. Wipe the mirror and fixtures
  4. Scrub the sink and vanity
  5. Come back and scrub the toilet (inside, rim, seat, base)
  6. Scrub the shower/tub
  7. Mop the floor

Common mistake: People forget to clean the toilet base and the area behind the toilet. That's where odors live.

Room 3: Bedrooms (30 min each)

  1. Strip and remake the bed with fresh sheets
  2. Dust all surfaces — nightstands, dressers, ceiling fan blades
  3. Wipe down baseboards with a damp cloth
  4. Clean any mirrors or glass
  5. Vacuum floor and under the bed

Clean Bee tip: We always flip or rotate mattresses during a deep clean — it extends mattress life and improves sleep quality.

Room 4: Living & Dining Areas (45 minutes)

  1. Dust ceiling corners and light fixtures
  2. Wipe down all hard surfaces — TV stand, coffee table, shelves
  3. Clean the TV screen with a dry microfiber cloth (never spray directly)
  4. Vacuum upholstery and cushions
  5. Vacuum and mop floors

The "Final Pass" Rule

Once every room is done, do one final walkthrough with a fresh microfiber cloth. You'll catch the things you missed — a smudge on a light switch, a streak on the mirror, dusty baseboards near the door.

This 10-minute pass is what separates a good clean from a professional clean.
